About the Selekta’s

Lerato Lichaba is inspired by life and how people relate, moreover, how different cultures and traditions blend in the language of his music. Together with his partner Dice, they founded House of Kuumba – a non-profit creative hub focusing on preserving our art culture and heritage through music archiving, knowledge sharing and artist development.

Lerato is also the founding band member of Urban Village, now signed to French record label, NoFormat.

Dice and Lerato Lichaba through House of Kuumba document the evolution and timeline of Southern African sound – an endeavour to narrate the history, societal norms and heritage culture of how local music genres took form, through their Radio Bantu Native music installations. They are also avid African music collectors and offer Afrique Diaspora music sessions.

KBZL is pronounced KhaBaZeLa. He is a record collector who hails from the red-brick city of Maritzburg and he is also an all round humble young man. uKhabazela is currently based in DBN amidst the chaos of iGqom, AmaPiano, uBanana and the revered Bunny chow wars.

It is seemingly the diversity and versatility of his sounds that sets him apart from the lot, and even after it all uKBZL never forgets the folks who have been brave enough to share in the elavations during sermons in which he has delivered, not to forget vibrations. Amongst the galaxy of ingoma which fills his core, KBZL regularly meditates to sounds from far and wide only made with Love, Soul and uJesu.
