At the Alliance Française de Durban library, we offer a wide range of award-winning French films. There is something for everyone: we have comedies such as Amélie, directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet, dramas such as Rien ne va plus by Claude Chabrol, thrillers like The professional by Luc Besson and many classic films by great film directors Jean-Luc Godard, François Truffaut, Louis Malle, and Jean Renoir, amongst others.

Most of our films have English subtitles.

As is the case with our DVD selection, we offer books from classic authors Zola, Balzac, Flaubert, and Molière to more contemporary writers, including Michel Houellebecq. We also have a section dedicated to young French-speaking children, with many beautifully illustrated fairytales and fables for them to take out and enjoy. For those of you still learning the French language, we have an “Easy Reading” section especially for learners, with translations of many English authors such as J.R.R Tolkien and John Steinbeck available, alongside abridged versions of numerous French classics.

Should you enjoy reading comic books, then look no further. our shelves are stocked with Astérix, Tintin, and many, many more. We also have some exquisite Indian graphic novels for your reading pleasure.

A wonderful selection of new books with CDs, so that you can read and listen at the same time! From level A1 to advanced.
We also have many supplementary grammar, vocabulary and phonetics books and Delf/Dalf preparation books with CDs.

Great magazines to help with lesson planning e.g. “Le français dans le monde”.
This section also has many theory books to help in lesson planning with a variety of learning methods e.g. “L’approche Communicative” by Evelyne Berard, and books that for instance show the teacher how to encourage children to read.
