Starting Thursday 16 March, Time of the Writer’s live programme will take place at the Alliance Française of Durban.

More than one hundred writers, poets, and wordsmiths will be featured in the 26th edition of the Time of the Writer festival, presented by the Centre for Creative Arts at UKZN from 16 – 21 March. The programme is packed with a range of live events and online webinars that will showcase both the creative juices of South African wordsmiths as well as their deep and critical insights into the state of the nation.

The theme for the 2023 Time of the Writer festival is “Placemaking: Roots, Influence, Imagination and Expression”. The curatorial team, led by Sibahle Khwela, has pulled together an impressive array of writers. The line-up for this edition includes, amongst several others, Dudu Busani Dube, Fred Khumalo, Niq Mhlongo, Lebohang Masango, Makhosazana Xaba, Kumi Naidoo and Yewande Omotoso. Novelist and playwright Dr Sindiwe Magona has been selected as the 2023 Featured Author.

There’s something for everyone, whether you’ll be joining us online or live in Durban at our venue for this year, Alliance Francaise de Durban.
